Gideon Jeph Wabvuta is a recent graduate of the University of Zimbabwe Bachelor of Arts program in Theater. He has been a part of almost all Almasi trainings and productions. He is currently one of our Director Mentees. Gideon has a dream. He seeks to attend an American Masters of Fine Arts Program in Acting. Gideon is a very ambitious, hardworking and driven young man. His pursuit of actualizing his fullest potential is relentless. He cannot, however, reach his goal, without your support. Gideon must come to the US to audition in order to be considered for an MFA program. With your help, he can come to the US, audition, as well as experience a cultural and educational exchange with Artistic Institutions that support Almasi's vision. This goal can be accomplished if $6500 is raised. Help Gideon in his relentless pursuit of his dream.

GIDEON'S STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
One of the aspects of life that has always fascinated me is the immense desire to escape from one’s own life into another, be it fictional or real. This fascination which I have carried within me since I was a little boy lead me into the field of acting. I swapped toy guns for stage guns and my own boyish clothes for stage costume and still the desire to escape is still there. A number of questions have been thrown at me as to why I want to do a MFA in Acting and my answers have always been different as they depended on who I was chatting to but all the answers have been truthful.

I grew up in a family in which everything is straightforward, go to school and get a good job. Acting wasn’t a job but a hobby which they all hoped it would pass in no time. Unfortunately for them it didn’t pass it stayed until now and my desire to pursue it is stronger by the day. The family has eventually turned around and now supports my quest though their fingers are crossed that I won’t end up a broke and begging artist.

My three years as an undergrad feel inadequate and I feel a MFA in Acting would be my next step as I feel like a baby in the field of acting and still wallowing in my ‘potential’ which I think I need to fully realize. As a student at the University of Zimbabwe in the Theatre Arts program I have participated in a number of professional program which has made me realize how much there is need for an educational overhaul of the theatre industry in Zimbabwe. The little experience that I have amassed in my time at school and within the industry has taught me resilience, hard work and most of all persistence which I think is vital if one is to be successful in anything.

The latest production that I was in gave me an insight into how powerful theatre can be as they all left at a week later it was still on their lips, not how good the acting was but how powerfully the story had been communicated. This is one aspect I long to explore as an actor, to be able to faithfully tell a story that will resonate with everyone all over the world. To have performances that will inspire the person who has never seen a single theatre performance to long for the next performance. I feel it my duty to impart knowledge and coming from a country like Zimbabwe where acting training is minimal yet there is so much talent, I feel the need to amass as much knowledge as I can. I count it as my duty and responsibility to myself and to theatre as a whole to excel in this profession that I have chosen, thus I always commit myself to excellence and professionalism at ALL times.
