Help The Convert Get Home To Zimbabwe!
HELP “THE CONVERT” GET HOME TO ZIMBABWE!
In just a couple weeks, we at ALMASI COLLABORATIVE ARTS are due to start rehearsals for our Zimbabwe production of The Convert. It is a long time coming and something that has been a dream of mine; I write all my plays, but especially this one, with the desire to take them home, and have them owned and experienced by Zimbabwean artists and audiences alike.
Adam Immerhaur, Associate Artistic Director of The McCarter Theater
is set to start his cultural exchange and direct this production in Zimbabwe starting mid-November. Help us reach the finish line by donating to “The Convert in Zimbabwe†today. Every dollar counts. We are determined to give the artists and audiences of Zimbabwe the most professional, educational and fulfilling experiences we can. We work to nurture great future Zimbabwean artists and connect the American with the Zimbabwean in a cultural exchange and by so doing, nurture global citizenship. Tinotenda! Thank you!
What Happens When Culture and Faith Collide?
It’s 1895 when the convert, a teenage girl named Jekesai, is thrust into strange new circumstances that pit Ancient African Traditions against Western Culture and her newfound Christian faith. When conflict erupts across the land who will she become?
"With an urgent voice, both heartrending and humorous, Obie Award-winner Danai Gurira (In the Continuum and Eclipsed) brings yet another faraway world to enlighten, enrage and ultimately edify audiences.
Winner of Six Ovation awards, the 2012 Stavis Award, the 2012 Edgerton Foundation New American Plays Award, the 2012 Whiting Award and the 2013 LA Drama Critics Circle Writing Award, "The Convert" is now playing at the Wilma Theater
(Philadelphia, PA)"
